What is the difference between XML and YAML?

XML is a tag-based markup format for structured data, where each value sits inside a named element and can carry attributes. It supports namespaces and schema validation, and remains standard in enterprise systems, RSS feeds and document formats. YAML is an indentation-based data format that expresses the same structures as JSON but reads more like prose. It supports comments, which JSON does not, and is the usual choice for CI configuration and Kubernetes manifests.
